To provide a mechanism of review.
Through the business planning process, management and staff get the opportunity to review what they collectively are doing and achieving and what they should be doing.
To set direction.
A plan provides clear direction for the Business Unit and Service and Organisation is working towards achieving its goals. Assignment of responsibility for achievement of the Actions within the plan provides staff with a clear understanding of their responsibilities.
To integrate the day to day operations with the strategic directions of the organisation.
By linking Service Plans with the Organisational Corporate Plan and Actions and tasks with strategies from the Service Plan, you ensure that the direction of the Business Unit/Region is focused on achieving what the Department wants to achieve.
To assist in the allocation of resources.
The business plan should reflect the resources required to achieve the strategic results and the KPIs expressed in the plan. Links to priorities in the Corporate Plan and within the business unit can assist in the allocation of scarce resources. The first year of the plan should reflect the approved budget for the Business Unit.
To achieve success.
Working together in a planned way will ensure successful achievement of the organisational direction and the Strategic Results outlined in the Service Plans.
